Culture:
I belong to a Punjabi culture, from north India. I was born and raised in India, so it has a strong effect on my life. My family emphasizes on pattern two of interdependent family, and my culture teaches me to satisfy family’s needs before my own and always available to family members when they need help. In an interdependent family, each member supports the other to create a whole. I remember my mother started a job to meet my family needs, and my siblings were young so, I took one year off from school to take care of my siblings. As I live in an interdependent family, elders always advise the young members when they need it. Now, I am a mother of an infant, but my mother still gives me advice on how to take care of her in bath, food, and swaddle, etc. In this way, I am aware of my culture and truly believe in it by helping family members and always available to them when they need help. I was born and raised in the Punjabi culture. Punjabi people are those who live in Punjab is compound of Persian word panj means five and ab means water. So land of five rivers. I am well versed in this culture. Culture is like a lens. We see the world through the culture lens of our family. In Bronfrenbrener’s bioecological model culture is part of microsystem.
I was raised in the Sikh-Punjabi family. In my culture, manners were on top priority. My parents always taught me to be kind, helpful and respectful towards others and elders. I remember when my mother prepared the food for the family, she serves to my grandparents first. Now, I follow the footprints of my mother while preparing and serving the meals to my family. I firmly believe in it as my moral duty. I will get my meal when my parents finish their meal. We add word “Ji” while addressing our elders because calling by the only name is not acceptable in our culture. I cannot imagine myself calling my elders with their name only. We add “Ji” for respect. This is how I value manners in my lifestyle.
Family : My family is an interdependent family. Each member relies on each other, and support other members of the household. They contribute to the cost of living. Old and seniors are respected in the family. If any one feels sick, there is always someone to take care of him in the family. Children who live in an interdependent family, always get to learn cultural and moral values from their grandparents. But, an interdependent family doesn’t mean that they do not have their responsibilities, vision, and purposes, etc. They are involved in each other’s lives as well as their own. My answer is related to my culture as everyone spent time with each other, consult with elders before making decisions, and are available to offer help to family members when they need it.

king) was very real. GOOD means respect for all forms of life and all natural laws, while evil means disregard for everything except yourself. the needs of my neighborhood “this is what it means to be a part of a
As a member of the community I also must understand the essentiality
of volunteerism. Volunteerism allows me to take the focus off of myself
and devote my time and energy to others that are in need. I currently
volunteer my time at my church and to coaching recreational youth
activities. Volunteering at the church allows me to meet the needs of
people that may not have any other place to go. Likewise, coaching allows
me to be a positive influence for other young people. This influence
instills self- esteem, team work, leadership skills and confidence. In
doing this, I am giving back to my community and making it a better place.
Volunteerism is also important also an important part of being a
member of a community because it not only helps individuals but aids the
community as a whole. It allows people to know that they will have support
in the community when they go through difficult times. You see, being a
