Description
Essay/ Term Paper
A 3000 to 5000 word essay (about 10 to 15 pages) must be submitted on the topic of the meaning and application of 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. Please do not go over the limit. Papers that go under the limit will be graded down.
The purpose of the essay is to explain the main point(s) or major idea(s) of the passage. The essay does not need to deal with everything in the passage. The following points must be kept in mind as you compose your essay.
- The essay should follow the method of interpretation laid out in Understanding Scripture by the Mickelsens as well as Fee & Stuart. Make this method clear in your essay.
- Essays must also cite at least four biblical commentaries. Commentaries are generally used to 1] find out information that you could not find yourself (example, the meaning of a word in Greek, if you do not control that language), 2] see if you made an obvious mistake (in light of the data gained from the commentary, and 3] show you reasons why the author chose to interpret the text as he or she did. This last function is most important. See the Course Bibliography for suggestions on commentaries. NOTE: the university library has commentaries in e-book format as well, which can be virtually checked out wherever you are. On 2 Corinthians look up: Shillington, V.G. 2 Corinthians.
