Abstract
Since the birth of computer in 1946, the use of computer has become more and more popular in modern society. From certain science and technology field to the necessity of every household, the demands and applications of computer are increasing day by day. Therefore, replying to the expansion on the computer usage and relevant study and technologies, Information Technology occurs as an emerging new industry. Since computer and IT play an irreplaceable role in our daily life, this paper will talk about what effects that computer and IT industry have brought to the modern society and how they influent us.
Part I (Chapter 2 related)
The relationship between the Internet, the Web and the modern society has been tighter.
To talk about the relationship and effect between the Internet, the Web and the modern society, it is necessary to realize the brief background about the development of the Internet. When the concept of the Internet came up in 1950s, it never stops to develop deeper and wider. Soon, the first message has been sent via the prototype of the internet in 1960s. With the of progress technologies and the development of the new age, the internet has become the global communication mainframe and take over 97% of information in the word nowadays. Therefore, when it comes to the modern society, it is inevitable to relate the world to the internet.
When it comes to the Internet, there is a growing awareness of both the positive and negative influence that they have brought to us. It definitely has taken a lot of advantages to the modern society.
First of all, the Internet impact the industry. Obviously, it totally changed the working mode of most of industries. From service to manufacture, from science to art, the way we work is distinguished since the appearance of the Internet. It speeded up the manufacturing and producing; it increased the service efficiency; it optimized information transmission; it enhanced the process of scientific research and it even created new form of art. Secondly, the daily life of people entered a new era. We can easily obtain virous information that we want no matter of where, when and how. Therefore, our life became more comfortable and convenient. Thirdly, there are also some of drawbacks of the Internet. With the pace of life increasing, the Internet and compute using caused some healthy problem on human body. Also, new crime patterns were formed via the Internet. Moreover, too much unhealthy information impacted the new generations.
Part II (Chapter 3 related)
The recognition that modern people, excepting the professional computer users such as computer engineer and senior gamer, are getting less understanding inside of the computer components.
Even though I am not a professional user or a computer major related student, I use computer almost every single day. Even now I am using it to type this essay on my laptop. The usage of computer is rapidly increasing today, since whatever people are doing, computer always plays an important role for it. However, with the improvements of technologies on computer during the past several decades, fewer people get to know what is inside of computers, what components inside support the various functions.
So, is it necessary to know how computer works and what the device and structure in the computer? My answer is “YES”. Why? As a consumer, when I decide to purchase a computer, I need to know the components of computer to find a prefect product for me. If I understand computer parts it would save my money in case I get something I don’t need and save time to do research and screen for the thousands of computer products.
As a user, knowing computer parts maximizes the function and utility when I am using it. In other words, it maximizes the profits and efficient. As a student, I am required to know relevant knowledge about computer, which is a product I use for everyday studying. By knowing it, it may increase my effect on my work.

Part III (Chapter 4 related)
The changes that servers, clients and virtual machines such as cloud technologies have brought to us are more positive than negative.
When it comes to new technologies on IT industry, cloud is unavoidable to be mentioned. Even though people are getting use to apply it in work and daily live, cloud is still a new concept for us to understand. As the concept state: “Cloud computing is an information technology (IT) paradigm, a model for enabling ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable resources (such as computer networks, servers, storage, applications and services), which can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the Internet” (Wikipedia), cloud has affected our live widely and deeply.
For the positive facet, cloud makes our live more convenient, more connected and more mobile. For example, we share information, which is the cheapest but most important component in modern society to each other in more convenient way. We adopt to gain them online instead of newspapers or mails. At this point, people are connected somehow, we don’t need to write a mail to contact our family and wait for reply for months. Also, we are more mobile comparing with the technologies 50 years ago. We could use our laptop, tablet and mobile phone to interact with others. Recalling that 50 years ago, a computer could be hug as a whole floor.
However, cloud technologies also have negative aspects. The biggest concern is about security, which will be talked in Part V. In addition, all those technologies are consuming, obviously. Imagine that how many things we could do by consuming $1000, but nowadays, it is just the price of a new iPhone X. Also, such new technologies cause healthy issues both in physical and psychological (social behavior disorder) facet.
By judging all the facts above, I still insist that there are more advantages than disadvantage that cloud technologies bring to us.

Part IV (Chapter 5 related)
The databases are becoming more and more important to companies and industries. Without doubt. It is critical for a company to manage its own databased well.
First of all, we need to know what is database and database management. Refer to Margaret, A database is a collection of information that is organized so that it can be easily accessed, managed and updated; and A database management system (DBMS) is system software for creating and managing databases. The DBMS provides users and programmers with a systematic way to create, retrieve, update and manage data (Margaret).
Secondly, you may ask why it is important for companies and industries to manage the database well. Here are some critical reasons. Databases are used to access the data in a company. By using the data management to access the information is easy and convenient for both employees and executives. Also, it makes different data information keep related with each other. In addition, the database management will keep updating, therefore, people who use it will acquire newest information to manage the data. At last, we are easily to be overwhelmed by so much of the information, the databases allow us to retrieval the information that we need.

Part V (Chapter 6 related)
Nowadays, the cyber security issue become more and more popular in worldwide since the popularization of the IT industry. As we are using the network every day for various purposes, the dangers it brought to us are increasing around us as well. therefore, it is important to understand the current situation of cybersecurity.
At first, we should know what the cyber security represents, “the body of technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access. In a computing context, security includes both cybersecurity and physical security” (Margaret). Secondly, in the modern society, people are living in two types of relevant society, the physical and informational society. The physical society is easy to understand, it is a visible and touchable world just the same with the one we are living in. In the physical society, we follow various laws, regulations and orders, which are also existing in the informational society. Nowadays, information as a kind of important strategic resources, it has enhanced on the national security or international security level. In other words, IT industry are not only changing people’s traditional life, but it also related to the security of a nation and the stability of society
Decades ago, cyber threats experienced the changes from the “no profit to the hackers”.to “cause the cyber security issue to get personal benefit”, and now, it has become “using cyberattack to steal the classified information about national politics, economy and military.” Therefore, the cybersecurity is going through a tough time. even a smallest vulnerability will cause a huge loses.

Part VI (Chapter 7 related)
As we talked above, we know that cybersecurity matters to our life. Therefore, to avoid the cyberattack, we need to understand what the threats are. The most common types of cyber security issues are Malware (malicious software), DoS (Denial of Service) attacks and Phishing attacks. All of them are really important to know how to prevent.
At the first, the malware, which is the most popular cyberattack around. The malware is used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software (Wikipedia). The malware is known by many notorious computer viruses such as worms, adware, scareware, worms, Trojan horses, ransomware and so on. Secondly, the DoS attack, which is also known as flooding attack. DoS attack is a kind of cyberattack that aim to interrupt or shut down the service by overload the target computer and eventually no user could visit the computer. Finally, the phishing attack. This kind of cyberattack is to gain computer users personal information by using illegal method and use the information obtain profit.
By the rapidly increasing usage of computer by person and business, more and more peoples’ life and work tend to rely on the Internet and the Web. The cyber security risk we are facing every day is also rising exponentially and it had become a social problem that we cannot ignore.

Part VII (Chapter 8 related)
When it comes to open source such as Linux operation system, there is a growing awareness of both the positive and negative influence that they have brought to the modern society. Some people might be right to think that open source is a disregard of copyright and patent. From my point of view, those shortcomings can be neglected when the advantages of open source are mentioned.
There are many advantages that open source software will bring to us, but the most essential of these are that it is free to use and of course it brings convenience. For example, according to studies, open source software collectively helps business owners save around $60 billion a year and it is accessible to anyone. Moreover, Open source software is easy to be distributed and reprogramed. In other word, since it could be accessed by anyone, open source software are more flexible and agile for the users.
Although there are may be thousands of merits that open source software will bring, the disadvantages cannot be neglected. First it is hard to use, which means that it is not straightforward to learn. For example, companies usually tend to employ professionals to use and manage the open source software. In addition, the security problem. Since it is open for anyone in the world, there will be someone have malicious intent to hurt others. Thereby, it is not wise to use open source software without deep deliberation of the possible negative situation.
Judging from all evidence offered above, I maintain that open source software is doing positive effect for the user and the society.

Part VIII (Chapter 9 related)
The appearance of command line interface of computers is critical for the development of the IT industry. Refer to the Wikipedia, “A command-line interface or command language interpreter (CLI), also known as command-line user interface, console user interface and character user interface (CUI), is a means of interacting with a computer program where the user (or client) issues commands to the program in the form of successive lines of text (command lines)” (Wikipedia).
To state the benefits of the command line interface, the graphical user interfaces must be mentioned to compare the relative advantages. Graphical user interface is the common interface that we, the nonprofessionals use every day on the computer. It simplified the process of operation and become easy to use for the people. However, command line interface has more advantages comparing with graphical user interface.
First of all, command line interface has faster speed, it simply uses one keyboard instead of a keyboard and a mouse plus other hardware unit to operate. Secondly, it uses less resources. Also, the command line interface requires less resource since it doesn’t have to load icons, fonts, mouse video and so on. Therefore, it occupies less resources and increase the running speed. Thirdly, command line interface has more diversity. When people learned how to utilize the command line interface, it become straightforward and easy to modify. So, the command line interface could be more powerful and more useful talent computer engineers hand.
Judging all the factors above, I think command line interface is an easy-to-use, faster, more efficient and diversified way to operate the computer.
